What are Special Collections? Can anyone use them?

The University of Sunderland Special Collections Service is a new service which currently consists of the North East England Mining Archive and Resource Centre (NEEMARC) and the Sidney Pollard Collections.  These collections are too old, rare or fragile to be kept on the open shelves.  They require special management, study facilities, storage and handling if they are to be available for future generations as well as being accessible today.

The Special Collections Service is open to anyone wanting to use the collections regardless of background.



What are your opening hours?

Special Collections is open Mon , Tues, Thurs, Fri - 10:00 – 16:00 and closed all day Wednesdays.



Where is Special Collections located?

Special Collections is located on level 3 in the Murray Library at the University of Sunderland.  It can easily be reached by public transport.



Can I turn up at any time to view the collections?

It is advisable to contact the Special Collections Service prior to any visit.
