Description
Correspondence, working papers and documents, news cuttings and ephemera relating to Kate Adie's employment by and work for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) working for BBC Television News, together with materials relating to wider interests and associations. The majority of items relate to Kate Adie's role as court correspondent, including the visit by Princess Anne to West Africa, the state visit by Queen Elizabeth II to Canada, and the visit to The Times newspaper in London by Queen Elizabeth II; and also to Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, Libya and the Anglo-Libyan diplomatic crisis following the death of police constable Yvonne Fletcher and the siege of the Libyan Peoples Bureau (embassy) in London.The remainder consists of: letters from members of the public; speaking engagements external to the BBC; background materials, assignment sheets and scripts for news reports; the Sunderland Church High School centenary commemoration; news cuttings and telexes referencing the 1984-85 UK miners' strike and the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Tolpuddle martyrs; published articles written by Kate Adie; news cuttings referencing Kate Adie or her work; a folder on the Ditchley Foundation's conference on How Democratic States Cope With Terrorism; ephemera from events attended.
